Revolutionizing Television: The Stargazr Interface

Wesley Ng's Award-Winning Interface Redefines TV User Experience

The inspiration for Stargazr came from a desire to revamp the TV user interface. Ng sought to create a portal that would allow users to discover programs and on-demand videos according to their preferences quickly and easily. The result is a design that is unique in its simplicity and power, with a Program Search function that is both simple and powerful.

One of the key features of Stargazr is its redesigned remote control. With fewer buttons, the remote offers improved usability, making the interactive TV experience more intuitive. The onscreen text is displayed with optimal legibility and readability, unrestricted by screen size or resolution.

The realization of Stargazr involved extensive research on TV user interfaces and remote controls to understand user behaviors and visual language on TV. The changes to major flows were kept to a minimum to ensure that existing users could easily adapt to the new interface. A functional prototype was built for usability testing before the actual interface was built in HTML & CSS, optimized for maximum transfer and processing speed to cater to a million users.

Stargazr's technical specifications are designed to accommodate a range of devices. The user interface is compatible with high-definition TV screens (1280*720 pixels), standard-definition TV screens (720*576 pixels), and mobile apps on both iPhone and Android devices. The mobile app resolutions vary according to the device.

The creation of Stargazr was a collaborative effort, with contributions from Senior VP Belinda Chan, Assistant VP of Product Development Keith Huang, and Interactive Designers Jerry Ng, Susan Pang, Wong Siu-kit, and Damien Foo. The design's unique properties and innovative approach to user experience have earned it prestigious recognition, reflecting the team's prodigy and wisdom, and significantly impacting the world with its desirable characteristics.
